The Birth of Sindy

Sindy was first seen in the shops on the 6th September 1963 and an advert was shown in the London area only by Pedigree soft toys ltd, part of the famous lines bros ltd. Pedigree had been producing dolls for over 20 years while lines bros ltd had been in the soft toy business for over 100 years.

Sindy came to us with a full wardrobe of clothes, shoes and accessories that matched the fashions of the 1960's. Jeans were the item of clothing worn by both Sindy and Paul when they were initially produced. Sindy came in blonde, brunette or auburn wearing the Weekender Outfit with a stand bearing her name and a Sindy Bazaar leaflet.

In the early 1960's teenage dolls of other countries were still wearing full skirts. Sindy came wearing all the latest fashions such as, head bands, bell bottom jeans, micro mini skirts, floppy hats, see through pvc macs and umbrellas and chain belts. The clothes were all miniature versions of real life clothes.

As the fashions of clothes, shoes and accessories in our history changed, so can they be seen in Sindy's fashions, shoes and accessories, right through the eras. Sindy has had every type of hair fashion you could imagine and in different colours to resemble her owner.

Sindys first outfits included: Lunch Date, Sleepy Time, Dream Date, Undie World, Shopping in the rain, Pony Club, Country Walk & Skating Girl.

Sindy was known as 'the doll you love to dress' and still is today. The rest as they say is history...................

Sindy Poem

When I was just a little girl.
I wished to be in Sindy's world.
Exciting, colourful and lots of fun.
But alas I was to young.

My mum would say my time would come.
But I would beg for just the one.
A Ballerina just for me.
But again my Mum would say "we'll see"

I'd go to bed with my eyes shut tight.
And dream of Sindy every night.
I'd rush and ask upon my wake.
The reply was "no" and my heart would break.

Wait a while my Mum would say.
You can't have Sindy, not today.
When you grow, your time will come.
And then I'll go a buy you one.

The days were long and the nights would pass.
Shop windows were like a looking glass.
Viewing Sindy from a far.
Peering through the door a jar.

Not long to wait my Mum would say.
Then Sindy came to me one day.
Woke up, got dressed and went down stairs.
Not one, not two, but there were pairs!

On the table for all to see.
There they were and all for me.
I couldn't believe my dream came true.
So now I share my dream with you.
